Random Act of Kindness - Sprinkles Style

I love random acts of kindness. It is so much fun coming up with ways to surprise people and bring a little bit of joy into their lives. We could all use an added touch of happiness, right? Today, I baked up a batch of my favorite sugar cookies with sprinkles and made a cute little note then dropped them by a friend's house. This friend and I usually exchange insults (in a funny way), so the look on her face when I did something nice for her was priceless. I honestly think she was wondering if I put some ex-lax in them! Don't worry, I would never do anything like that.

Want to know a little secret? I make these cookies often just so I can sneak a little bite of the dough!

Who came up with that suggestion anyway? I have yet to get sick from it and I've done it all of my life. I couldn't wait to lick the bowl when I was little and my mom made cookies!

Fresh out of the oven

Next, came a trip to the Dollar Store. I picked up a white plate and some packaging to wrap it all up and make it pretty. Presentation is key!

I wrapped it all up, added a pretty ribbon and a gift tag. On the tag, I thanked my friend for "Sprinkling laughter into my life!"

Since I had all the ingredients on hand, I only had to purchase the plate and packaging. So, for a total of $2.17, I was hopefully able to make someone's day!

Statement Piece

One of the first pieces I purchased for our new home, nearly 3 years ago, was what I call a "Statement Piece." I ran across this beauty at a store in Salado, Texas. It was way out of my price range, so i just admired it from afar and dreamed about how amazing it would look in my house someday. Luckily, I had gushed over this piece to a friend and she actually knew what piece I was talking about without even stepping foot into the store! Fast forward 6 months...This same friend called me and shared she had just spotted my dream piece at 1/2 off! After a few cartwheels and happy dances, I quickly called the store and asked them to put it on hold for me. I made my way to Salado and returned home the next day with a piece that makes me happy every time I look at it.

You're probably wondering what it is? I had to ask the same question! Apparently, it came from an old church in San Antonio. We're not sure exactly what it was used for, but our best guess is a tithing box. It has a small slit in the top portion that looks coins could fit into.

Our family has decided to use it as a prayer box. We randomly write prayers on little pieces of paper then slip them into the slot. It's a great way to go back and see how God has worked in our lives, through both answered and unanswered prayers!

It's also a great place to store pillows and blankets in the lower section.

This is the perfect statement piece for our family. It's got great architectural details, it's beautiful, and it serves a purpose! Do you have something similar in your home? I'd love to hear about it, leave me a comment!

Simple DIY Project

Yesterday I set off with a client in order to find something fun and different to fill a wall space in her kitchen that was bothering her. She had tried many different options, but just wasn't happy with any of them. We searched high and low and finally decided to get creative and make something original.

                                         So, let's take a look at the area before we started.

BEFORE

We started by finding 3 small baskets from World Market, then stopped at Hobby Lobby to buy some canvas cloth.

AFTER

 We "shopped" her kitchen for items to fill the baskets. A potted plant was added on top. Then colorful dishtowels were rolled up and allowed to peek out in order to add a bit of color. Lastly, we found a miniature rolling pin, some silverware and a mango to finish off the look.

What do nail polish and decorating have in common?

As I was shopping at the grocery store, for the bazillionth time this week, I made a run down the nail polish aisle. I quickly picked up "Walk of fame" by essence. Yes, it's a 99 cent, small bottle, because that's how I roll! After using it, I noticed something a little funny. Most of the colors in my drawer are colors I have used while decorating my house. Think I'm kidding? Let's take a peek, shall we?

These 3 beauties make up the majority of the house. So my house, in nail polish lingo, should be named... the Queen of d'nile goes down the Walk of Fame White Now!



Moving on, here's the kids TV room...

Let's call it, the "Sapphire Beauty with a hint of Mad about Mango."

Next time you're wondering what color to paint a room, go to your nail polish for inspiration. Think about it, you wouldn't put something on your body that you didn't like, right? These are more than likely the colors you're drawn to, so use them in your home then add a little punch of something unexpected.

I've made a decision...to try! For years now, I've wondered what it would be like to start a blog. So many things held me back, mostly self-doubt. The nasty inner voice would say, "You don't have any computer knowledge," "You're not really good at decorating," and "It's just not worth the risk." Well, you know what nasty little inner voice? I'm done with listening to you and I'm going to give it a try!

And so begins the journey. Hang on for the ride and ask yourself...
