Transparent Tuesday

Oh my! Today's transparent topic is a doozy. How's this for a topic?...Parenting. Is. Hard.
In fact, there's no doubt in my mind that it's the most difficult job I've ever had! Can I get an Amen?!

I'm pretty sure this image is exactly what one of my children (who shall remain nameless) did all day yesterday...

I promise there was a tornado behind that child which left a path of destruction following everything he or she touched. And did I mention that his or her arms must have been broken because the act of cleaning up after his or herself was completely unthinkable?!

And since when did pinching the fire out of someone become a perfectly acceptable way to punish your sibling for incessantly tapping you on the head? You have words, child, use them! Did you really not think your sibling wouldn't squeal like a pig when you inflicted your form of conflict resolution and land you in even more trouble than you were already in?

And, oh yeah, did I mention this perfectly adorable child of mine had the nerve to come out of the room he or she was banished to for the evening and ask if we'd save him or her some Oreo pudding?! Wow...guess I've done an excellent job of teaching my kids to be assertive and ask for what want, but somewhere along the line I certainly failed at teaching good judgement.

Whew, glad I got that off my chest.

Anyone else in need of parenting prayers today? Leave me a comment or send me an email with any requests: dfrieling1@gmail.com.

  2. A big AMEN to that Dana. Best job and hardest job ever - and my little girl isn't even 2 yet. I think about parenting a lot and the various decisions that we've made as parents so far. I was upstairs getting ready this morning thinking "ok, this has gotten easier (like I have time to shower without worrying whether I'm going to have to run downstairs to feed my child) but there are different harder decisions now". So anyway, AMEN! And my husband told me a guy he work with says "small children, small problems. big children, big problems" oh boy - can I keep my daughter small? :)

  3. Aaaaamen!! No job can ever compare to parenting. Sometimes I want to be like that kid in the picture and just tune out the sqeels and ALL the other stuff that comes with my girls. Referee should be on all of our (mothers) resumes :). Let's just all pray to this together.

  4. I have days similar to this with one teen and one about to be 11 but both girls. The teenager needs her space often and my younger one does not understand that so there is occasional bickering. Tiring for the ears but I remind myself and them that in 4 years one will be in college. Prayers, yes!

  5. You crack me up! Since mine doesn't have a sibling guess whose buttons he tries to push all day?!! By the end of the day I'm the one that looks like your first photo! :)

  6. I am right there with ya!! Some days I just want to run & hide...or pinch their heads off!! The age & personality differences in my boys can prove to be extremely difficult. The youngest(7) wants the oldest (15) attention and he just wants to be left alone, and it usually turns ugly and the referee has to attempt to straighten it out. I usually end up yelling, and of course the older one should just "let it go", but will he?? Uh, no! What he doesn't understand nor does he remember, he was the same way at that age. Just yesterday, they were at it, and I went to the older one, instead of yelling, I began speaking calmly, he was not...and asking him questions and when I left his room, we were speaking calmly and reasoning how he can try to be more tolerant of his brother. He is only 7!! Praying that today is better for you!!!

  7. Amen sister!!! Ooooooh these children of ours, testing us and making unsavory decisions! I have to remind myself, over and over, that they are works in progress, learning how to use restraint and good judgement and think of others. Apparently at some point they will actually get all of this and behave nicely without us making them!! (Or so I hear :)
Parenthood IS hard, and I'm glad to have friends like you that admit it and support each other!
