Happy Thursday, friends! Today's RAK challenge is not for the squeamish but it could definitely save a life.
I have to admit, I've never donated blood. Honestly, I've tried but they didn't want my blood! What?!! Yes, you read that right. My iron levels are never adequate. The nurse told me to go eat a big spinach salad the day before I plan to donate next time. It's an easy fix.
John and my dad are regulars when it comes to donating blood. They're such awesome examples. My dad's blood type is conducive with all types so I remember the blood banks stalking him for his blood with I was little. They would literally call and ask him to come donate!
It's easy to donate when there's a huge blood drive organized, but the reality is that there's always a need. This is an easy way to make a difference...a life-saving difference!
Okay, you know what to do, friends...Go out and be kind!
i have donated blood before- a couple times before i had kids. now that i have kids that i have to be "on" for, i haven't so much because it always leaves me tired and woozy as i am a little squeamish. i definitely plan to again!
ReplyDeleteI have not done it yet but have considered it. THank you for the reminder, Dana! Hope you are enjoying your summer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great reminder! My dad has done it regularly for years, as well. And, my nephew did it while in college because he got paid for it! I guess that wouldn't exactly be an RAK! :)
ReplyDeleteI have tried this a couple times and it has taken at least 3 sticks before they get my vein! OUCH! So I haven't done it in awhile; I need to not be selfish and just go do it again!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter, and I, donated for the first time last week. I fainted on my daughter in the snack area, and once they got me on the floor with elevated legs and ice packs, my daughter got weak. Okay, don't let this deter you from donating. We did NOT eat well several days prior, were not well-rested or hydrated. It took us a day to recover, and I went home and took a good multi-vitamin with iron, and gave myself permission to eat as much as I wanted the day after to replenish nutrients. It's a good thing to do, and I was surprised at all the good looking men donating, tee hee (incentive).
