Client Boards and a little before/after pic

I've been blessed with a few new clients since moving to town. It takes a lot of effort to rebuild a business but things are picking up and I have a bit of progress to share with you today.

This board is fresh off the press. I haven't even heard my client's response to it yet! I stopped by his house this weekend to drop off drapes and he mentioned he'd like help finding a guest bed. Next thing you know his guest room came to life. It only takes a single inspiration piece and in this case it started with the bed...
I'm pretty much in love with this room, so if he doesn't give me a thumbs up it's still a win/win situation. After all, I still have a guest room that needs to be decorated. (wink, wink)

I know I shared the great wingback chair from this board but don't think I ever got around to showing you guys the rest of the room.
I'm excited to say we made some major progress this weekend and we're about ready to call this room done.

My client sent me some pictures this evening. Here's a phone pic from our initial consultation.
BEFORE:

And, here's what he was proudly sharing with me.
AFTER:
Hang 'em high, friends, hang 'em high. Yet another case and point!

And, yes, this is a very odd place to put the television, but when you're designing for a single man the television is certainly MEANT to be the focal. ha! Well, to be honest, he knew it was bad placement but we were also working around impossible dropping of wires and a built-in that was built prior to ginormous televisions.

Client Living Room Moodboard

Work has been amazing this week! My clients are out of town and have trusted me to do their living room installation while their gone. Their furniture was delivered last week and I've been accessorizing like nobody's business. Headed to pick up their rug as the last piece of the puzzle today.

Here's the moodboard that provided our jumping off point. This was primarily used to help them visualize the sofas they were considering. You're going to flip when you see these beauties in person in the after pictures. See that cool chesterfield sofa?...It's white leather. And the curvy navy sofa?...It's a navy and cream geometric print. So pretty.

The art we found sent us in a slightly different direction in terms of color scheme, but it turned out great. My client likes lots of color and that term was definitely achieved. Check out the ottoman that's still to be delivered...

And, here's the chandelier that's hanging in the breakfast area near by.
There's so much much more I want to show you but I need to be careful just in case they're being sneaky and trying to catch a glimpse while on vacation. ;)

Can't wait to show the final shots!

How to build a room

I thought about titling this post 'Moodboard Monday' but that's probably been done a million times already, right? Alliteration is just so catchy when it comes to titles. Anyway, I thought it may be fun to take a peek at a recent room design and walk you through it.

Floor Lamp: Zinc Door
Whale Pillow: 2Modern
Mirrors: Target
Table Lamp (actual lamp no longer available, but here's a similar one): Home Decorators
Leather Drum Ottoman: Zinc Door
Ikat pillows: Layla Grace
Drapes: Walmart
Medallion Pillow: Zinc Door
Side Table: Layla Grace

So many people start to decorate a room and suddenly feel paralyzed. It seems so overwhelming with the bajillion selections available.
So where do you start?
This room was born with 2 colors, navy and orange. The ikat pillows provide a great color scheme. Study those colors and run with it. Here's a secret...you know those colors rock it because a designer has already put them together in their great fabric design!
Find accessories that blend but aren't matchy matchy.
If everything in the room matches, then your room becomes very boring. There's nothing of interest to draw in your attention. When the above piece of art is added, boom...our color scheme just grew. Now we can easily pull in yummy buttercream (sorry, I'm suddenly thinking about cupcakes) leather ottomans and green drapes.
Mix high-end with low-end
Your room doesn't have to cost a fortune. Be willing to splurge a little on the furniture pieces you'll be using the most. If art is your thing, then splurge on a piece that makes your heart sing. Now find areas to skimp. For example, did you notice where the drapes are sourced above? That's right...Walmart!
Don't be afraid to mix metals
Once again, not everything needs to match, including metal finishes. The antique gold finish of the mirrors sit nicely above an industrial table with a contrasting metal finish.

So there ya go, friends, a few little tips to keep in mind as you begin to build your room. If you're still feeling hesitant or overwhelmed, I'd love to help you. Read about available services here then feel free to contact me.
