Mirror Wall Reveal

Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Show us the prettiest dining room of all!

I'm extremely excited to share my clients amazing dining room reveal with you today. It's been a long time coming, but it was totally worth the wait.

Check out this huge transformation...

          AFTER...

We brought this room into this century by removing the faux-finish paint job and heavy texture then replaced it with gorgeous wainscoting and a mirror or two. Oh, yeah, more like 20!!

Here's a closer look at the trim work and details. The contractor, Chris, did a fantastic job and paid very close attention to every single detail. Just one reason this project turned out so killer!

Hats off to my clients who actually did all the math and mapped out the entire wall themselves. Here's a  look back at the very beginning...
I tipped them off to my favorite trick when creating wall designs...painter's tape. It's the miracle that makes things happen.

The view isn't limited to the dining room, it's also easy on the eyes from upstairs too.
Final touches still need to happen, like finding the table's leaf in storage so it'll fill the space better.

Then, I've got my eye on these beauties...

So, just a little more work before this room is 100% complete, but I just couldn't wait to share the pretties!

Little side note: If you live in the Austin area and would like to buy the chandelier in the before picture, contact me and I'll send you the details.

Happy weekend, friends!

Diamond wall meets Design Star

Well, well, well...did anyone catch Tuesday's episode of HGTV's Design Star. Bryn and I were snuggled in for our weekly TV date and suddenly she said..."Momma, she's going to make your wall!" She was quick to take note of the sketches Britany had drawn. Next thing you know the carpenter is fast at work building diamonds!

I thought, 'surely it's not going to be the same', but I'll let you be the judge of that...

Britany's diamond wall:

 My diamond wall:

I would love to know where she got her inspiration?! Could it be?...

Holy smokes! Look what I found on Britany's Pinterest page. Guess I just answered my own question!

I've said it before...imitation is the highest form of flattery! It would've been nice to have received a few HGTV shout outs for the idea, right?!

I've got another big project in the works but my handy husband has asked for the weekend off. Guess I'm just going to have to be patient. I hope you all have a restful and peaceful weekend, friends.

Giant 'F' details

I teased you all on Monday with this picture and asked how observant you are. Well...did you notice the blue painter's tape and the fact that it's not in the original spot I tried out?

Since you so kindly played along with my little game, here's the reveal in all its BIGNESS!

There's a tiny hallway off of the rotunda in our entry that leads to the guest bedroom and bathroom. This ended up being the perfect place to house our family pride. It's discreet because it's set back a bit, but the second your turn your head it's like 'BOOM, hello big F!'
This gives you a better idea of the overall space and why I decided to paint it black.

I have to say, I kinda love it!

I was dreading painting the lines, which is why this project almost didn't come to life. Honestly, it wasn't that bad! And for those of you wondering what my family thinks since there were originally 2 out of the 4 of us who weren't too excited about the F...I'm happy to report that everyone is happy. John says the placement was key for him and feels it's in the "perfect spot" now. And, Bryn changed from "not so much Mom" to "that's pretty cool!"

Sometimes it takes seeing the finished product before you can totally sell an idea!

Let's play 'I Spy'

Anyone up for a little game today? I spy with my little eye...

Let's see how observant you all can be! You're definitely very opinionated and very persuasive as evidenced by all the fun comments in last Friday's post...

Happy Monday, friends!

Wall Treatment Reveal (Phase 1)

Let's start off our week with a little happy dance! The tools have been put away and it's time to show you the results of our latest DIY project.

For those of you who have been following along, I'm happy to report that I still have all 10 fingers and I "passed" my final exam. Boy, I had a hard teacher too...he actually busted out the measuring tape when he walked in the door from work. What, honey? I learned from the best, why would it be anything less than perfection?! (Ok, I'll admit, I did have some difficulty and I used waaaay too much wood, but it got done nonetheless.)

Shall we take a little trip back and look at the before picture?

AFTER

I'm pretty pleased with how things turned out! It adds a little architectural detail and definitely adds dimension to the room.

Hooray for getting rid of the iron! When we first moved into our house 3 years ago, I was in a hurry to fill the space so I found something inexpensive and "made it work." Word to the wise...be patient when it comes to decorating your spaces. Find your style and become comfortable in it then let your creative juices flow. This way you'll end up with something you love instead of "making do" and wasting money.

I'm following my own advice this time around before I embark on phase 2 of this project. Ideas that are rattling around in my brain include adding static curtains beside the french doors, maybe painting the doors a fun, bright color. Totally would love a big, drum pendant over the table. Oh yeah, and I have some favorite pictures from our summer trip to Vail that may look super cool blown up and hanging on the wall. So many options! Unfortunately, this is the real world and money doesn't grown on trees so I'll be patient and look for some killer deals as I bring the rest of this room to life.

I'm so glad you shared a little of your time with me today. Stop back by tomorrow and I'll share the nitty gritty details so you can duplicate this look on your own!
