Porch Plantings

I'm sure, by now, you've all seen millions of images of pallet creations. Well, I jumped on the pallet bandwagon and coerced my husband to make us a planter/bench for our side patio. Sure do wish I had pictures of the process, but I don't. You'll have to use your imagination. First, picture a blank space. Next, picture a wooden pallet. Now, see my husband pulling it apart, cutting and nailing it into this wonderfulness...

Isn't he handy?! He created 3 openings to allow for easy removal of the pots. This makes planting a breeze. Sadly, the pots have been empty for a long time now due to our summer from Hades here in Texas. Now that the temperatures have managed to make it under the 100 degree mark, I decided it was time to head to Lowes for the plants. Anyone else aware of the crazy good deals you can find in Lowes' Garden center? Here's what I stumbled upon yesterday.

That's right...$2.00! This mixture of plants was marked down from $12.95. Best of all, the hard work was already done. I didn't have to decide what to plant, they did it for me! I snatched 3 of these beauties and completed my project for a total of 6 whole buck-a-roos.

Let's take a gander at the finished product.

Much better, right? I love the freshness and the colors it brings into the space. My kids came home from school and immediately went outside to eat their snack. Who doesn't enjoy pretty plantings?

I'll leave you with a few more pics.

What about you? Have you stumbled upon any secret clearance sections that make you giddy with excitement? Leave us a tip!

That's cool! At Hallowe'en time you could switch it up with Pumpkins and at Christmas time you can put pine boughs and decorations... every holiday can be something different!

I love this. My parents have some pallets laying around their yard and I am thinking of snagging them. I have been wanting a bench seat for our front porch! Thanks for the inspiration.
