If you've been reading for any time at all, you've probably realized I'm extremely frugal. As much as I'd love to buy a "real" piece of art, it's just not in the budget. Below is a piece of DIY art I created when paint chip art was all the rage. It's about to get a makeover!
I'm planning to purchase a canvas drop cloth from Home Depot, cover this piece and essentially start over with a blank canvas. Since it's rather large, I've been a little intimidated to jump into this project. Luckily, I expressed my hesitancy to Diana from Your Day Simplified, and she offered some great advice...practice on pieces of large brown paper.
And that's exactly what I did...
So, the plan is to incorporate various shades of the following colors: coral, navy, teal and yellow. The yellows in my practice pieces didn't quite make it to the deep tone I'd like. I'm not in love with either piece, so it's a good thing I followed Diana's advice and didn't jump right into the piece I'll be staring at day in and day out!
I wonder how many more practices pieces are in my future before I take the plunge?! I'm all ears if you're into painting and you have words of wisdom to pass on. Do tell, friends!

i really love that first image! so pretty!
My advice...frame that brown piece of paper! I love the first one! You need an Etsy shop! :)
I love all the abstract prints -- such an easy way to add color and fun to a room.
You did that last one?! Obsessed!!
ooh, Dana, the movement in your art is awesome! I love them both because they make you think when you look at them.
Ditto to Pam!! 1. Frame it :) 2. Etsy shop! They're beautiful! I may need to have a little chat with you. I bought framed canvases that are above my sofa, but I want to paint over them but am clueless.
I'm with Pam and Carly! I would totally buy your second piece. Start framing those brown bags and put them all over your house and puh-lease let us buy them! :-)
